H2-View News: Electrolyser supply to surge by 2030, but demand uncertainty raises oversupply question: H2 View webinar
Electrolyser supply is set to grow 20-60% by 2030, but demand uncertainty and project cancellations could create an oversupply, a H2 View webinar has heard. Jonathan Long, Senior Consultant at ERM, warned that the hydrogen industry could face an oversupply of electrolyser capacity based on the 2022 baseline. However, he advised that competitive pricing could stimulate additional uptake. This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.
H2-View News: Rely to lead pre-FID studies for Verso Energy’s global e-SAF projects
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Rely will support Verso’s global e-fuels projects, with four in France, two in Finland and one in the US, representing more than 500,000 tonnes of e-SAF per year. Rely will perform basic engineering, pre-front end engineering and design (FEED) and FEED studies for each of the plants. The two companies aim to develop a standardised methanol-to-jet production platform to lower costs through innovation, standardisation, and replication. The platform will integrate Rely’s in-house technologies and partner solutions, including Shell CANSOLV, Technip Energies’ exclusive amine-based post-combustion carbon capture technology. “This collaboration with Rely is a key [...]
H2-View News: Topsoe’s delayed Herning plant to begin SOEC production in 2025
While gross profit was fractionally up in 2024 (DKK3.58bn ($498.1m), compared with DKK3.56bn ($495.3m) in 2023), revenues fell from DKK9.41bn ($1.309bn) to DKK8.37bn ($1.2bn), mainly down to catalyst business sales, and cashflow from operating activities dropped to DKK966m ($134.3m). Around a quarter of revenue (23%) came from businesses related to technologies and solutions that enable the production of low-carbon, renewable fuels and e-fuels. Energy consumption decreased from 359,172MWh to 338,335 MWh. Roeland Baan, CEO of Topsoe, said 2024 was a “solid year” with its catalyst and technology businesses continuing to support customer projects worldwide. He said the company is well [...]
H2-View News: Second European Hydrogen Bank draws 61 bids and exceeds budget fourfold
Representing 6.3GW of proposed electrolyser capacity, the projects aim to produce over 7.3 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen over 10 years, which would cover 7% of the EU’s REPowerEU ambition. Under the auction framework, projects will have two and a half years to reach financial close, five years to begin hydrogen production, and up to 10 years of subsidies, contingent on verified production. In particular, €200m has been specifically allocated for green hydrogen and its derivatives intended for use in the maritime sector, which resulted in eight maritime-related projects submitting bids. This auction has a ceiling price of €4/kg ($4.21/kg) for green hydrogen. Whereas in the first auction, the [...]
H2-View News: MOL’s Winz Maru yacht produces and delivers green hydrogen in ‘world-first’ trial
As part of its Wind Hunter Project, the Japanese firm delivered hydrogen to the central breakwater area of Tokyo. The green hydrogen was produced onboard the Winz Maru vessel and converted to the liquid organic hydrogen carrier methylcyclohexane (MCH) to facilitate safer and efficient handling and transportation. The demonstration yacht was modified with MCH tanks and additional turbine generators to enhance the production capacity. The vessel is a wind-powered ship that navigates using sails and generates electricity through underwater turbines, producing hydrogen from seawater. Unlike traditional ships designed solely for transport, it integrates production, storage, and delivery of hydrogen energy. © [...]

H2-View News: Belgian transport operator retires hydrogen buses, focuses on electrification
In addition to the fuel cell buses being decommissioned, De Lijn also decided to dismantle the hydrogen refuelling station located at Vaartkaai, according to local news site Nieuwsblad. Ultimately, the collapse of bus manufacturer Van Hool was a key factor in the decision to cancel the hydrogen-powered public transport operations. Flemish Minister of Mobility, Annick De Ridder, explained that the transport operators are now focusing on electrification. “With the bankruptcy, technical support and maintenance options disappeared, combined with higher operational costs over their lifetime, the decision was made to dismantle the hydrogen refuelling station at Vaartkaai and retire the five [...]
H2-View News: FuelCell Energy and MMHE advance hydrogen collaboration with feasibility study in Malaysia
Under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), they will combine FCEL’s solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) technology with the Malasyia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB) subsidiary’s expertise in large-scale fabrication to develop modular solutions suitable for hydrogen production facilities. Building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023, the two companies will undertake a Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) to evaluate the production of low-carbon fuel in Malaysia using SOEC technology. Additionally, they will collaborate with KBR to utilise its low-carbon fuel synthesis technology as part of the DFS. “Building on our earlier efforts, this partnership highlights our readiness [...]
H2-View News: Morocco approves $32.7bn for six hydrogen-based projects
The UAE’s Taqa and Moeve (formerly Cepsa) will focus on green ammonia and synthetic fuel production. Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power aims to develop green steel, while Moroccan firm Nareva will work on green ammonia, industrial fuel, and green steel. A consortium led by US-based Ortus, Spain’s Acciona, and German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex – operating under the ORNX consortium – will also produce green ammonia. Similarly, UEG and China Three Gorges will develop green ammonia production, forming the sixth project. The Moroccan Government has offered each of these projects up to 30,000 hectares of land, as long as preliminary agreements are signed. According to local reports, the selection process remains open to new investors interested in developing hydrogen projects in [...]
