Total capital committed to global clean hydrogen projects has reached $110bn, according to a new Hydrogen Council report,  up 46% on last year, despite growing cancellations and delays. The new Global Hydrogen Compass report, developed in collaboration with McKinsey, states that since 2020, the clean hydrogen sector has averaged a 50% year-on-year growth rate in committed investments, with 510 projects now past the final investment decision (FID) stage, in construction, or operational. The deal will allow the company to launch, buy, and sell large-scale hydrogen projects, opening up deployment opportunities and new revenue streams, with a focus on US and European markets. Ambient Fuels, which launched in 2021, aimed to deliver “custom-engineered” green hydrogen solutions from project development and design to financing and construction. Its portfolio of projects has not been publicly disclosed. The Preliminary Market Consultation runs until September 30, with APA seeking private partners to finance, build and operate the green hydrogen plant under concession. Under the project structure, APA will set the framework, while the private sector carries the financial and technical risk. The construction timeline will depend on the concession award and final tender decisions on capacity and scope. The planned 1MW plant will be designed for future scale-up. From 2029, Verso will supply at least 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen from its Carling Hydrogen Next Generation (CarlHYng) project in France. The green hydrogen will supply SHS Group’s Saarland steelmakers, including Dillinger’s heavy plate production, Saarstahl’s long products and the joint venture ROGESA. Each company is transitioning under the government-backed Power4Steel decarbonisation programme. H2H has partnered with local firms Prowire Group and TAS Hydraulics to build its first station in Ulverstone next year. The consortium is aiming to leverage local skills, make Ulverstone a clean energy hub, and support the Tasmanian state’s transition to hydrogen-powered transport. Last month, H2H took part in the first hydrogen-powered public transport trial in Hobart. Three hydrogen buses delivered by Foton Mobility Distribution were rolled out in the city, with hydrogen supplied from Blue Economy’s small-scale hydrogen facility. ITM Power expects revenues from hydrogen molecule sales and services to eventually overtake its core electrolyser business in the long-term, as the company pushes ahead with its new Hydropulse subsidiary. CEO Dennis Schulz told H2 View that the new build-own-operate business would allow the ITM Group to follow a similar path to major industrial gas players. The Chilean-founded e-fuels developer has shifted plans for HIF Tasmania following engineering and site reviews. The former Pulp Mill site reportedly offers construction cost savings, port access for trade, and local resources such as recycled wastewater. “The move will bring new life to one of the region’s most significant industrial sites, returning long-term employment to the community while supporting Tasmania’s ambition to be a leader in renewable energy,” the company explained. Chilean clean energy developer Susterra will begin with a 20MW electrolyser in Antofagasta’s mining district, a $68m first phase set to scale to 100MW and eventually 200MW. Initially, the plant will produce nine tonnes of green hydrogen per day, before reaching 45 tonnes and 90 tonnes per day, respectively, bringing the total project cost to $423m.
