H2-View News: Hydrogen sector seeks procurement mandates in EU competitiveness drive

In a letter addressed to senior European Commission officials, the lobby group framed green hydrogen as a pillar of industrial sovereignty, and not just a decarbonisation tool. “If Europe fails to scale up renewable hydrogen, it risks losing an entire sector, forfeiting competitiveness in key industries, and diminishing its sovereignty in strategic technologies,” it said. RHC stressed policymakers should now focus on implementing renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) targets at a member state-level. These include the ambitious Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) 2030 mandates of at least 42% of green hydrogen used in industry and 1% of energy [...]

H2-View News: Ineratec partners with Chilean consortium on Biobío e-fuel plant

The parties will conduct feasibility studies aimed at validating the use of carbon dioxide from industrial processes and green hydrogen to produce sustainable fuels. Comprising forestry firm Arauco, energy company Abastible, and multi-utility conglomerate Copec, the Chilean group will work with Ineratec to explore setting up power-to-liquid (PTL) plants in the region. The feasibility studies would build on a basic engineering study that the German company has already undertaken. Current designs locate the plant in Arauco’s Biobio industrial complex, from which it would use biogenic CO2 captured from the company’s operations and green hydrogen produced locally by Abastible. Copec stands [...]

H2-View News: Japan’s MHI demonstrates co-electrolysis hydrogen-to-SAF production pathway

The engineering major demonstrated the use of hydrogen and carbon monoxide as a feedstock for the fuel, which it could be used in aircraft, ground vehicles, ships, and domestic gas. The novel process uses solid oxide co-electrolysis to produce the feedstock and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis equipment to produce the liquid synthetic fuel. Co-electrolysis combines hydrogen production and carbon dioxide conversion into a single electrochemical step, reducing system complexity and potentially improving efficiency. MHI claims the product may be suitable for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Under the Europe ReFuelEU Aviation legislation, aircraft fuel suppliers must ensure a 2% SAF blend, which [...]

H2-View News: Austal begins construction on Swedish ‘hydrogen-ready’ ferry

The130-metre Horizon X  multi-fuel catamaran will navigate between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland, to support the operator’s climate-neutral goals. According to Austral, the vessel will be equipped with a combined cycle propulsion system made up of gas and steam turbines that use waste heat recovery. It claims the system is fuel flexible, allowing hydrogen and “other low-emission alternatives” to be used. Now under construction in Cebu, the Philippines, it will carry up to 1,500 passengers, 400 vehicles and cargo. With delivery of the ship scheduled for 2028, a primary fuel source for its operations has not been [...]

H2-View News: Macron urges overhaul of EU hydrogen rules in competitiveness push

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a sweeping overhaul of Europe’s hydrogen framework, urging regulatory simplification, European preference rules, and new financing to compete with heavily subsidised rivals. Speaking at an EU leaders’ summit in Antwerp on Wednesday (11 February), Macron said Europe had fragmented the hydrogen market “by design” through complex regulations shaped by internal divisions among member states over national energy policies. He argued existing rules – like renewable power sourcing requirements for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) – have created unnecessary complexity and slowed market development. This is a paid article, to read the article [...]

H2-View News: GenH2 targets liquid hydrogen scale-up with new simulation test platform

The test system – for liquification, storage, and transfer of hydrogen – has supplied data for validating performance and mitigating technical risks. The Florida-based subsidiary of Path2 Hydrogen says it has been using the technology, named the Cryostat CS900 LH2 Simulation Test Platform (CS900), in various scenarios without boil-off losses. It will offer insight into how the firm will apply its standardised liquid hydrogen infrastructure solutions. James Fesmire, Chief Architect and Co-Founder of GenH2 said the test platform has provided “unprecedented” comprehension for accelerating new standards in liquification storage, and transfer of hydrogen. While liquid hydrogen is often positioned as [...]

H2-View News: Hy2gen firms up plans for Finnish synthetic fuel plant

In a joint announcement the pair pointed to collaborating to plan constructing the facility on the green transition industrial area in Vihreäsaari. Hy2gen initially secured the land for the plant in November 2025, and a further cooperation agreement defining details of the process is expected within 2026. Its proposed plan is expected to position Oulu as the largest hub for synthetic fuel production in the Baltic Sea region based on the number of power-to-X projects being developed. This includes Verso Energy’s €1.4bn sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility, which will produce up to 80,000 tonnes per year of the hydrogen-based alternative. Hege Økland, [...]

H2-View News: Element 1 to supply methanol-to-hydrogen power systems for Taiwan data centre

Under a fresh memorandum of understanding (MOU), the Oregon-based clean energy systems firm will provide power generators, including hydrogen-fuelled models, for the project scheduled to begin in June 2026. Taiwan-based Aurosi, a subsidiary of Seetel New Energy, plans to use e1’s containerised power generators and hydrogen generators to supply up to 2MW of methanol-based PEM fuel cell power as part of a 5MW off-grid power facility. E1 claims its methanol-to-hydrogen systems provide portable power on demand and represent a clean, affordable solution for on-site end-uses. The duo plans to finalise a supply agreement shortly after the project breaks ground. E1 [...]

H2-View News: Germany invests €54m in new Bavarian hydrogen mobility research hub

Part of the German Recovery and Resilience Plan, the funding is aimed at creating a facility to support the development, testing, and market readiness of hydrogen technologies. Located in Pfeffenhausen and named the Wasserstoff Technologie-Anwender-Zentrum (WTAZ), the site will focus on heavy-duty transport and urban air mobility applications. It will feature testing infrastructures including laboratories, test benches – for storage tanks, combustion engines, and completed vehicles – and a hydrogen liquefier. With existing sites in Chemnitz, the northern German cluster of Bremen/Bremerhaven, Hamburg, and Stade, this would be the fifth facility of its kind in the country. Situated next to [...]

H2-View News: Bangladesh election: tackling energy import dominance

Bangladesh goes to the polls today [12 February] with the slowdown in industry and energy – and development of renewables and industries such as hydrogen – among the major political talking points. The eighth-most populous country globally has a strong reliance on energy imports to meet the growing needs of its 177 million people – and such is the scale of demand, the focus has continued to be on traditional sources such as coal and oil. The dependence deepened when the country chose not to mine domestic coal, largely on environmental and social grounds, ironically making it more dependent on [...]
