The expansion comes as the company looks to develop competitive gigawatt-scale hydrogen projects in Australia, recognising the country’s role as part of its global hydrogen strategy due to its potential in becoming a leader of the industry.

Despite the strong move to support the Australian market, Total also revealed the binding term sheet between itself and Province Resources Limited, which saw the companies team up to explore the development of an 8GW green hydrogen project, had expired and had not been extended.

Over the past 18 months Total Eren says its team of 40 in Australia has created a hydrogen development pipeline with up to 30GW of capacity across the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia.

It is hoped the expansion will aid the Western Australia Government’s Renewable Hydrogen Strategy Roadmap by focusing on domestic supply and export opportunities.

“Australia is key in Total Eren’s global strategy,” said David Corchia, CEO of Total Eren. “The continued growth of our team in Perth is a demonstration of our commitment to advancing our hydrogen pipeline in Western Australia and our collective global expertise to deliver the lowest cost of energy for the hydrogen future.”

In September last year (2022), Provaris Energy and Total Eren signed an agreement to collaborate on green hydrogen projects using compressed hydrogen storage and transport solutions to reach Asian and European markets.
