The tanks are used in light-duty fuel cell electric trucks that are being brought to market by Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) backed by Toyota Motor Corporation and Isuzu Motor Limited.
The tanks, installed at the rear of the vehicle, can be filled with about eight times as much hydrogen as the passenger fuel cell vehicle tanks Toyoda Gosei produces for the Toyota Mirai. .
To develop the larger tanks, Toyoda Gosei applied the technology for high-efficiency storage of hydrogen the company and Toyota Motor refined the tanks for the Mirai.
Toyoda Gosei aims to contribute to a hydrogen society through the development and production of hydrogen tanks that are a crucial component of fuel cell vehicles.
Toyoda received a Technology & Development Award in 2021 from Toyota Motor Corporation for the high-pressure hydrogen tanks featured in the Mirai vehicle.
The tanks are a crucial component for fuel cell vehicles and hold hydrogen compress at high pressures. The Mirai vehicle is equipped with three of the hydrogen tanks.
