The Norwegian-based company has been selected for the third year in a row as a partner for the hydrogen bus market in North America.

New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group and ‘largest’ mass mobility solutions provider, is playing an active role in zero emission transportation in North America, putting sustainable buses and infrastructure in place in cities across the US and Canada.

Hexagon Purus will deliver its Type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders between the second quarter of 2023 and the first of 2024, under a contract estimated to be valued at approximately $2.5m (NOK 25m).

The cylinders will be provided for New Flyer’s serially produced hydrogen fuel cell eclectic transit bus, the Xcelsior CHARGE H2, enabling a driving range of up to 350 miles/560km on a single refuelling.

David White, Executive Vice President and Supply Management at NFI, said, “Hexagon Purus has been a long-term partner, and we are happy to continue offering hydrogen fuel cell-electric vehicles that deliver extended range, faster fill times and strong performance, from beginning to end of life.”

Jim Harris, Vice President of North America Hydrogen Storage Operations, added, “Hexagon Purus and New Flyer have been working closely together since 2015 and we are proud to be part of New Flyer’s effort in decarbonising transit bus operations in North America.”

Production of the Type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders will be produced in Hexagon Purus’ newly opened facility in Westminster, Maryland, US.

The company recently received an order to deliver mobile hydrogen refuelling stations and storage to Deutsche Bahn, in a delivery worth around €2.5m.
