The 7.5-tonne dual-energy vehicle, equipped with a lithium battery is fitted with a hydrogen fuel cell range extender.
The testing programme accumulated more than 1,000km (621 miles) between Tevva’s London headquarters and the English-Scottish border at Berwick-on-Tweed – England’s northern-most town.
Charlie Cordell, Lead Engineer at Tevva, said the trip was a “terrific demonstration” of the range you can achieve in a truck that uses a blended system of electric and hydrogen.
Tevva unveiled the 7.5-tonne hydrogen range-extended truck in June last year (2022), where it said it could achieve 310 miles (499km) of range.

During the testing, temperatures rarely climbed above freezing, H2 View understands, at one point dropping to -10oC, however, Cordell said, “The freezing conditions were extremely challenging, but helpful too, in allowing us to gather important data about vehicle performance, meaning we could make tweaks here and there and tailor its development.”
The Tevva team stopped off for hydrogen refuelling at Element 2 in Teesside, as well as an earlier stop in the Midlands.
Dr. Andrew Hagan, Chief Development Officer at Element 2, commented, “Providing the hydrogen for this significant journey is a proud moment. The superior range on this fuel cell vehicle is a comfort and reassurance for organisations ordering new vehicles and updating their fleets.”
Having unveiled its 19-tonne version of the hydrogen truck in August last year (2022), Harsh Pershad, Head of Hydrogen at Tevva, in an interview with H2 View said the truck is expected to have a range of up to 500km.
