Under the agreement, the companies will foresee the export of green ammonia produced in Pecém Complex, Ceará, and integration of supply chain to the Port of Rotterdam by 2026.
The agreement will enable the export of green ammonia produced in the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP), which has the potential to produce 2.4m tonnes per year.
Marcel Haratz, President of Comerc Eficiência, said, “Green hydrogen is the fuel of the future, but it is already a reality and a global trend.
“We will be at the forefront with a project of the size and partnered with European companies it puts Brazil in a leading position to become an important player in the sector.”
Paul Baan, CEO of THA, added, “The THA chose Pecém as one of the most promising places to produce and supply green hydrogen to Europe.
“By combining forces with Casa Dos Ventos and Comerc, we provide industry-leading skills and capabilities across the entire value chain, from renewable energy supply, hydrogen and ammonia production technology, storage and logistics, maritime transport and deliver to customers in the Port of Rotterdam.”
THA claims that the green hydrogen production market in Brazil could be worth between $15bn- $20bn annually by 2040.
The Pecém plant is to be built on a 60-hecctare site with a capacity of up to 2.4GW of electrolysis, producing 960 tonnes of hydrogen per day.
Last year, the Government of Ceará, Brazil, and Cactus Energia Verde signed an MoU to see the production of green hydrogen at the Pecém Port Complex, with a $5bn investment.
The production of green hydrogen in Brazil could catapult the nation onto the international hydrogen market with the vast potential that the South American country holds in generating renewable energy.
