The companies have formed a strategic alliance to jointly develop stable and large-scale green and blue ammonia supply chains in Asia, Europe and the US.

The partners will develop the project in Port of Corpus Christi, Texas, US, with the target of first production by 2030 and phased build-out of production capacity with multiple production units.

In the final build-out stage, the project is envisaged to produce up to 10m tonnes of clean ammonia per year.

The land required for the project is under discussion with the Port of Corpus Authority.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. and INPEX Corp. recently completed a conceptual study for an ammonia bunkering vessel capable of supply ammonia fuel to ships.

Since ammonia does not emit carbon dioxide (CO2) when burned, it is expected to be used as a stable source of clean energy in the future and is getting attention as a fuel that will greatly contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime industry.

In 2022, RWE signed an agreement to offtake up to 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year from Namibia.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, the companies will explore the potential of exporting ammonia from Hyphen’s Namibia green hydrogen developments to Germany for use by RWE.

Last year, Lotte Chemical announced it is set to invest KRW4.4 trillion ($3.7bn) in the hydrogen ecosystem to bolster decarbonisation around the world.

Lotte aims to build its hydrogen refuelling station network across South Korea this year.

Linde recently announced it will invest in a Texas clean ammonia hub too.

It will supply clean hydrogen and other gases to OCI’s ‘world-scale’ blue ammonia plant to Beaumont, under a new long-term agreement.

Expected to invest around $1.8bn, Linde plans to build, own and operate an on-site complex, integrating autothermal reforming with carbon capture, and a large air separation plant to supply OCI’s 1.1m tonne per year blue ammonia plant.

A Successful Ecosystem for Green Hydrogen – London

It is becoming ever clearer that the entire green hydrogen ecosystem requires alignment. Hydrogen’s potential, performance, and safety are proven. Green hydrogen is widely accepted as a core pathway to Net Zero, yet the key levers in the transition are not yet in-sync.

At H2 View we recognise the increasingly challenging economic climate that various countries/economies are currently facing. We want to help as many companies as possible in the hydrogen space to achieve their needs as competitively and logically as possible. As a result, we felt it was a compelling decision to relocate our previously planned event in Iceland, to a venue in London.

Join H2 View in London, one of the foremost investment capitals of the world, for a 1.5-day event devoted to thought leadership, insights, and actionable takeaways in the green hydrogen ecosystem, combined with the connections and networking to deliver against those objectives.

This H2 View hydrogen summit is dedicated to dissecting the ecosystem requirements to truly realise a green hydrogen-fuelled future across industries, transport, and society. This event will tackle all sides of the energy ecosystem, from wind and solar power requirements to additionality, water sustainability, electrolyser technologies, and investment and policy climate.
