The Delaware County Sherriff’s Office reported that at 14:30pm (EST) on Monday (February 6), that US 23 was closed in both direction in the southern end of Delaware County due to a two-vehicle crash, involving a truck carrying hydrogen fuel causing it to explode.

From images shared on social media by Delaware Country residents and local media, the truck and trailer involved in the collision in Orange Township appear to belong to North Carolina-based OneH2.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a car collided with the truck, which officials have said was carrying 420kg of hydrogen, which ignited, causing several explosions, and damaging nearby traffic signals and utility lines.

Local reports have said that the three people have been taken to hospital, all with “minor injuries.”

U.S. 23 is still closed right now after this truck carrying hydrogen fuel exploded.

After being closed for nearly eight hours, H2 View understands US 23 has now been reopened as the remnants of the truck were driven away.

In 2021, OneH2 joined forces with General Motors (GM) and Navistar to deliver a complete hydrogen long-haul transportation solution from the vehicle itself to its supporting infrastructure.
