Role Description

The Hydrogen Council is a global CEO-led initiative that brings together leading companies with a united vision and long-term ambition for hydrogen to foster the clean energy transition. Using its global reach to promote collaboration between governments, industry and investors, it provides guidance on accelerating the deployment of hydrogen solutions around the world.

The organisation was created in 2017 and has members based across all major time zones in Americas, EMEA and APAC. The Council’s Secretariat is based in Brussels. The Project Manager is a key person within the Project Management Office (PMO), part of the Hydrogen Council’s Secretariat, to launch new projects and keep the ongoing ones on track.

Note: Projects are to be considered studies or other initiatives needed to support the uptake of hydrogen. These are often performed in collaboration with external expert partners or consultancies.

Public reports of past studies can be found on the website of the Hydrogen Council. All projects within the Hydrogen Council are run and managed in close collaboration with a team of experts of Hydrogen Council members.

Responsibilities

Pre-project stage: you support the process of identifying and shaping new projects, from initial ideas and stated goals to well structured projects, ready to be launched:

Liaising with Hydrogen Council members to support the articulation of new ideas, transform these in more mature proposals with stated objectives and suggested approaches, instrumental to gain further support and traction

Structuring the project (planning, WBS), drafting Project Charters, Request for Proposals (RfPs) to be sent to candidate bidders (external experts or consultancies)

Manage the bidding process and support the selection of the winning bidder

Project management: you are responsible for the day-to-day operational management and coordination of various projects of the Hydrogen Council:

Preparing the kick-off meeting incl. inviting members to participate in the project team

Interacting with the Hydrogen Council membership: you will be the day-to-day contact regarding the projects for which you will be responsible. That includes the organisation of information flows and meetings and follow-up where needed

Interacting with the external experts: you will be the day-to-day contact for the external experts or consultancies that play a role in the project

Monitoring progress and organising the reporting as per Hydrogen Council needs

Preparing materials (including documents, reports, presentations etc. as needed)

You operate in an international setting with English as the de facto standard language.

While each team member has its own area of activity, ensuring the continuity and high-level performance of the main membership processes is a collective responsibility of the entire team.

You report to the Director of Operations and PMO.

Qualifications

You have excellent organisational, project management and communication skills. You are capable of working independently, yet at the same time a team player. You know how to handle multiple project work streams in parallel, shift priorities and “zoom in & out” as the situation requires.

You are strong in problem solving, have a structured approach when dealing with matters assigned to you and have the ability to make sound judgments. You have the capacity to deal with multicultural settings, have a strong drive, know how to handle complex situations and pay attention to detail. You remain calm and professional under dynamic work loads.

Service minded and professional: you take pride in being in touch with members of the Hydrogen Council, aiming to understand and take care of their needs.

You are looking forward to being part of an international setting that requires a flexible, diplomatic, tactful and service oriented mindset.

You have a desire to actively contribute to the mission of the Hydrogen Council and are genuinely interested in the role of hydrogen in the future energy mix.

Education: university degree – candidates from a variety of backgrounds will be considered with a preference for people with a more technical profile (engineering, sciences, economics,…). Familiarity with energy technologies and markets, value or supply chain optimisation, or innovation ecosystems is a plus.

Experience: some years of professional experience in a relevant industry or in a similar position in an international industry association is a plus.

Language skills: excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Candidates need to be able to contribute to the production of high-level materials.

Other: well developed competencies in the usual range of IT tools (e.g. MS Office, Teams), open to learn additional tools (project management tools, collaborative tools).

Under permissible circumstances travel will be required to attend international events and maintain partnership relationships coincident with key events and/or project milestones
