H2 View understands the company is installing several Aqualizer™ electrolyser modules to be tested against fluctuating electrical power input generated from renewable energy sources, with operation set to commence in early 2024.
Asahi Kasei has said the planned system will feature one to four 0.8MW electrolyser modules to facilitate the verification and improvement of their design, operation methods, and control technology.
The announcement comes as the company looks to ramp up its hydrogen involvement, centred on alkaline electrolyser systems. On October 27 (2022), the Hydrogen Council announced Asahi Kasei, among other companies, had become a member.

In 2020, Asahi Kasei, and its subsidiary Asahi Kasei Engineering revealed they installed a 10MW alkaline water electrolysis system at the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field (FH2R).

According to the company, technological advancements achieved at FH2R will see the company commercialise a large-scale electrolyser system, comprising of multiple 10MW modules by 2025.
