Joining the Hydrogen Council as steering members are the Japanese companies, Asahi Kasei Corporation, IHI Corporation, and the Canadian TC Energy. Advario joins are a supporting member.
According to the Council, the new members align with its three main objectives of increasing the visibility and recognition of hydrogen as a tool for energy systems and decarbonisation; identifying and unlocking impediments to progress in the realisation of green hydrogen; and working with and providing recommendation to key stakeholders.
Launched in 2017 by 13 founding members, the Hydrogen Council’s membership has steadily grown with the rise in interest of the emerging hydrogen economy. In June (2022), it revealed it had gained seven members.

Commenting on the new memberships, Yoshinori Kanehana, Chairman of Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Co-Chair of the Hydrogen Council, said, “We are delighted to welcome these four companies to the Hydrogen Council. The Council has seen strong growth this year with a total of 22 new members from a wide range of geographies and sectors.
“This highlights the rising interest in hydrogen and affirms hydrogen’s vital role to realise a cleaner and more sustainable future.”
Koshiro Kudo, President of Asahi Kasei, said, “Through participation in the Hydrogen Council initiative, we believe we can contribute to building a hydrogen value chain together with partners and achieve the decarbonisation goal.”
Hiroshi Ide, President to IHI Corporation, added, “IHI is focused on building value chains for ammonia and hydrogen. We consider that through the Hydrogen Council initiative, we can together promote the widespread use of hydrogen and ammonia as safe, affordable, and effective tools for rapid decarbonisation.”
François Poirier, President and CEO of TC Energy, commented, “We look forward to collaborating with our peers on the Hydrogen Council to accelerate the evolution of the hydrogen economy.”
Bas Verkooijen, CEO of Advario, concluded, “We are deeply rooted in the belief that partnerships drive true progress, and trust that we can accelerate the energy transition together with the other members of the Hydrogen Council to realise a greener, more sustainable future.”
Exclusive: The unveiling of hydrogen’s bigger picture
The momentum in hydrogen investments and deployment has been building for many years and has rapidly accelerated since 2020, but we’re now seeing the bigger picture in hydrogen unveiled and the direction of the task ahead.
Connecting the dots in infrastructure, renewable energy hubs and demand centres will be the focal point in unlocking hydrogen’s undoubted potential.
That’s according to Daryl Wilson, Executive Director of the Hydrogen Council, speaking to H2 View upon the release of the new Global Hydrogen Flows report.
Released in the last few minutes and co-authored by McKinsey & Company, the report combines the global industry data from the Hydrogen Council with a bespoke advanced-analytics optimisation model, specifically developed for the study, that balances supply and demand across all regions, multiple carriers, end products and scenarios…
