The company unveiled plans for the Belfort, France factory in 2021, which it hopes will play a key role in the transition to industrial-scale electrolysis.

Through the development of the factory, McPhy is targeting innovation through the development of new generation alkaline electrolysers, industrialisation of large-scale hydrogen production, and collaboration with numerous partners of the European hydrogen ecosystem.
H2 View understands, the company is set to make a final investment decision on the Gigafactory project shortly, after the contracting of the terms of public aid with Bpifrance.
Commenting on the gigafactory plans in 2021, Pascal Mauberger, Chairman of McPhy, said, “This future factory will play a major role in the transition to industrial scale electrolysis, an essential condition for green hydrogen to achieve the decarbonisation objectives set by the French Government and the European Authorities.”
The European Commission in July (2022), approved up to €5.4bn ($5.2bn) of member state public funding for the IPCEI Hy2Tech programme, in a bit to unlock an additional €8.8bn in private investments for the industrialisation of hydrogen technologies.
