Infinite Green Energy (IGE) revealed its MEG HP1 project has secured all remaining land for the project, opening the option to double product to eight tonnes of hydrogen per day, as well as unveiling plans of establishing a refuelling station.
Planned to be built on the existing 11MW Northam Solar Farm, the IGE development is expected to initially produce up to four tonnes of renewable hydrogen per day for transport use from early 2024.
IGE, formerly known as Infinite Blue Energy, announced the project in March (2022).
Additionally, IGE has said it has secured a site in the Northam commercial area for its offices, with room for the proposed refuelling station and storage for eight hydrogen-powered trucks.
The development of the refuelling station is the initial project in a partnership between IGE and the Western Australia fuel distributor, Refuel Australia.
Commenting on the partnership, Ian Burrows, Managing Director of Refuel Australia, said, “Refuel Australia is thrilled to be working with Infinite Green Energy to bring renewable hydrogen into our product offering, starting with the planned Northam fuelling station.
“Renewable hydrogen will likely form a significant part of the fuel mix as the world moves towards Net Zero carbon emissions.
“Hydrogen is particularly suited to the medium and heavy transport operators that form the core of our customer base. We are excited to be an early mover in the supply of green hydrogen in partnership with Infinite Green Energy.”
Stephen Gault, CEO of Infinite Green Energy, added, “IGE has the land, renewable electricity, project expertise, initial customer base and financing options to produce WA’s first commercial-scale renewable hydrogen in Northam.
“Refuel Australia’s experience in the design and operation of refuelling stations enables the final piece in the puzzle – ensuring a convenient and familiar refuelling experience for our end users.”
