A new deal between the pair will see Turn2X explore building e-methane plants adjacent to AGR Biogas’ facilities in Andalusia and Extremadura.
Under the plans, AGR Biogas could supply biogenic CO2 produced by biomethane upgrading to Turn2X, while waste heat from e-methane production would be supplied to AGR Biogas’ operations.
The duo will also explore the potential of sharing grid connection infrastructure and a gas grid injection point.
They claim the arrangement could reduce both the opex of AGR Biogas’ operations and the capex of Turn2X’s projects, while helping to reduce gas imports in the region.
AGR Biogas CEO David Piñero said the collaboration would allow the biomethane firm to “maximise” the value of CO2 generated by its facilities.
However, the potential capacity of the new projects has not been disclosed.
Turn2X already operates an e-methane plant in Miajadas, which utilises a 1MW electrolyser to produce green hydrogen. This is then synthesised with CO2 to make e-methane.
E-methane is chemically identical to methane and can be used in existing natural gas infrastructure. In 2025, Turn2X claimed Europe’s “first” cross-border delivery of e-methane to a German glassmaker using the EU’s mass-balancing system.
