Germany’s post-FID green hydrogen capacity nears 1GW, but early-stage projects wane

Green hydrogen projects past the final investment decision (FID) stage in Germany increased to almost 1GW between Q2 2024 and Q4 2025, making it Western Europe’s biggest market, according to new ICIS research.

The commodity intelligence firm’s analysis of German green hydrogen supply found projects that have progressed beyond FID had a combined capacity of 933MW in Q4 2025, up from 187MW in Q2 2024.
