Having secured governmental support, the exploration company can now help Aragón to cut its carbon emissions. Further to that, the plans build upon Helios’ already withstanding 60,200 hectares of gas exploration permits in Huesca to product low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen.

Now, having signed a letter of intent with Helios, the Government of Aragón is fully committed to supporting the venture and hopes to see international stakeholders and companies get involved.

Dr Chris Atkinson, co-founder of Helios, said, “We are pleased to receive the full support from the Government of Aragon.

“We believe that the location of our acreage could not be more perfect as we are situated in a region with over 18 years of hydrogen experience through their Hydrogen Foundation and with a fully committed government to the energy transition.

“Being close to a population base is an added bonus due to hydrogen being notoriously difficult and expensive to transport.”

It is believed Helios Aragón’s project will take advantage of the local infrastructure and close proximately of the European Hydrogen Backbone (EHB) project.
