The Swiss-based technology company claims its HyQ PCI880 IGBT rectifier will enable more cost-effective and scalable green hydrogen projects.
Built upon ABB’s earlier rectifier models, the modular system reportedly features 98% efficiency in power conversion, a 6,400 A stable DC output per power block, and Bluetooth-enabled monitoring.
“The PCI880 empowered engineers and plant operators to scale green hydrogen projects efficiently and safely,” the firm’s statement said.
The company added that the technology can be applied to both pilot-scale setups and large industrial electrolyser installations.
“The HyQ PCI880 is designed to meet today’s demands and to support the future growth of green hydrogen,” explained Leonidas Bouzianis, ABB’s Hydrogen Sales & Business Development Manager.
The HyQ PDI880 is a next-generation power converter that transforms AC into optimised DC, which is essentially for electrolyser operations. Since 2021, ABB has supplied over 2.8GW of DC power systems across the globe.
Specifically, it has worked on more than 160 hydrogen electrolysis projects since 1958, including a 20MW hydrogen plant in Sweden.
The product will be showcased at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg, Germany, from October 21-23.
