Air Liquide to expand US Gulf Coast hydrogen distribution after new refinery deals

The French industrial gas major said it would upgrade its pipeline system and install new compression and distribution equipment after inking new hydrogen supply agreements with two unnamed US refiners.

The firm has not disclosed the contracted volumes or production method. However, it is likely its existing grey hydrogen production capacity in the region will be used.

Air Liquide currently operates almost 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the region, supplying oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen to customers in Texas and Louisiana.

The network also connects to its hydrogen salt cavern storage facility in Texas, which has capacity for over 4.5 billion cubic feet of hydrogen.

Matthieu Giard, Group Executive Committee Member, said the investment reinforced the company’s footprint in the region.
