The European Commission is proposing to almost halve tariff-free steel import quotas and introduce a 50% duty for excess shipments to preserve its domestic steelmaking.
Under the plans announced on Tuesday (7 October), all imports from countries outside of the European Economic Area will be covered, with importers set to disclose where the steel was melted and poured.
