Stargate Hydrogen expands portfolio with ‘record-low’ footprint 10MW electrolyser

Stargate said its 10MW Aurora system achieves 14.4 m² per MW, making it the “most space-efficient alkaline electrolyser of its kind on the market.” Space constraints remain a challenge for industrial hydrogen users.

The electrolyser module integrates two 5MW Starbase stacks with a stack consumption of less than 49kWh/kg of hydrogen, and features an outdoor-ready design with a compact form factor.

Stargate’s CEO, Marko Virkebau, said the launch of these new products addresses “two main barriers for industrial hydrogen adoption: cost of hydrogen and space constraints at industrial sites.”

The CEO added, “By delivering the most compact and high-efficiency 10MW electrolyser system on the market, we are empowering industries to integrate green hydrogen production directly into their existing operations.”

A smaller footprint could reduce installation and civil works costs for industrial site operators, although the balance-of-plant systems, such as cooling and compression technology, can still add to total space requirements.

Although still at an early commercial stage, Stargate claims a “record-low” footprint and stack consumption below 49 kWh/kg, but the figures are yet to be independently verified.

The company plans to reveal more details at the World Hydrogen Tech Expo, taking place in Hamburg, Germany, from 20–22 October.

The launch marks Stargate’s transition from R&D to commercial-scale production, following the opening of its 140 MW alkaline electrolyser factory earlier this year.

The Tallinn-based technology firm launched the facility with its entire production capacity sold out until the end of 2025. The plant could be expanded to over 1GW after its first phase with minor additional investments.
