Green Navy and Seco Marine seal long-term deal for hydrogen vessel systems

The two companies will combine electric drive with hydrogen fuel cells, collaborating on the design, engineering, integration and certification of the “H2-ready” systems for passenger, cargo, and mixed-use catamarans.

Under the long-term agreement, Brittany-based Green Navy will provide vessel design, project management, and upstream expertise.

Meanwhile, the Fétis Group company, Seco Marine, will act as the integrator, handle electric systems, hydrogen safety, commissioning, and long-term maintenance.

H2 View understands that the agreement is exclusive and reciprocal, guaranteeing both firms a sustained role in the commercial rollout of hydrogen-powered catamarans.

“We already have a number of orders in the pipeline, and this agreement guarantees an exclusive and reciprocal commitment concerning the development and integration of electro-hydrogen systems for new ships,” confirmed Charles Cardi, Green Navy CEO.

Green Navy already has a working relationship with Seco Marine through the Promoteo project. In January, the Brittany region granted a subsidy of €1.5m ($1.76m) to support the initiative.

“The technical and human aspects surrounding the Promoteo project went particularly well, with highly relevant work carried out together with Seco Marine,” added Cardi. “We have built a relationship based on trust, mutual respect for each other’s skills, and excellent complementary qualities.”

Hydrogen is gaining traction in maritime decarbonisation strategies, particularly for smaller vessels and regional routes where battery solutions may fall short.

However, scaling hydrogen in shipping remains challenging due to high fuel costs, infrastructure gaps, and the need for robust safety and certification frameworks.
