Polytec selects IMI PEM electrolyser for industrial hydrogen trial in Italy

The Polytec Spa subsidiary is aiming to decarbonise local industrial activity while revitalising the Ex-Paisoli brownfield site. Although the production capacity is not specified, the project is intended as a trial.

Once operational, green hydrogen will be supplied to industrial sites across the Storo region, specifically the Ex-Paisoli area, for painting and drying processes, and metalworking furnaces.

IMI’s 1MW system is set to be powered by a dedicated 4.4MWp photovoltaic system.

“The project is running smoothly and on schedule,” according to Polytec Energy’s Mattia Rosa.

The Project Manager added, “With the funding obtained and the addition of a direct investment that we chose to add, the green hydrogen Polytec produces will contribute to the industrial area’s energy transition.

“We hope to see the project’s wider benefits in the local area, bringing increased employment and development of new skills.”

Polytec Energy is behind the H2_Polytec Project in Storo, Italy, which was awarded funding under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), specifically the Mission 2 Green Revolution and Ecological Transition programme.

IMI has been deploying its single-digit megawatt electrolysers across Europe, including a Lithuanian green hydrogen plant with MT Group earlier this year and a German district heating project in 2024.
