RVK has kicked off ground works for its Green Mobile Home Park outside of Cologne, where its expected 160-strong hydrogen bus fleet will be fuelled.
The 15,000m2 site in Bergisch Gladbach Moitzfeld will host a hydrogen refuelling station with integrated green hydrogen production, alongside charging for battery-electric vehicles.
The operator has not revealed the station’s capacity, electrolyser size, or equipment suppliers. However, H2 View understands the facility will host its own solar PV system to power the electrolyser.
RVK has been building up its fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses since 2011. The fleet is expected to reach 160 buses by the end of 2025 as it aims to be zero-emission by 2030.
In addition to the Bergisch Gladbach Moitzfeld facility, the operator is also building a station near Düsseldorf, where it will use two 1MW PEM electrolysers from Quest One to produce up to 900kg of hydrogen per day.
Despite wider setbacks for hydrogen mobility, vehicle OEMs and infrastructure providers are focusing efforts on long-haul, back-to-base operations, where predictable refuelling could offset concerns over costs.
Get up to speed on hydrogen with Class of H2
At a time when hydrogen is the new gold rush for so many investors and start-ups alike, and the skills gap risks becoming the skills gulf, H2 View’s Class of H2 presents a series of hydrogen training modules.
Our first masterclass is created to bring your hydrogen fundamentals up-to-speed, covering the basics, e-fuels and ammonia, low-carbon and green hydrogen production, turquoise hydrogen production, biomass pathways, and underground hydrogen storage.
