China’s Sungrow Hydrogen plans electrolyser production in Oman

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with United Engineering Services (UES) sets the stage for Sungrow to manufacture and assemble its electrolysers, gas separation, and purification systems in the Sultanate.

While the intended factory’s output has not been disclosed, the systems produced in Oman will be aimed at meeting local demand as well as export markets.

Sungrow currently makes both alkaline and PEM systems.

Oman has looked to establish itself as a key green hydrogen producer and exporter, with its state-backed company Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) allocating land for eight projects with a combined 1.2 million tonnes of annual capacity.

It also recently opened a third project allocation auction.

Sungrow has also been ramping up its international green hydrogen aspirations.

Already a major in solar PV manufacturing, the Chinese-headquartered company inked an agreement with a Portuguese firm in May to market, sell, and support its electrolysers in southern Europe.

Last year, the company’s General Manager, Jason Jin,told H2 Viewthat Sungrow Hydrogen “should have some pioneering projects in Europe.”
