GeoPura acquires Green Hydrogen Systems assets and staff, launches Danish business

The hydrogen and equipment provider said it had taken ownership of assets, including spare parts, tools, and fixtures for the A-Series electrolyser, along with former GHS staff.

A transaction value has not been disclosed.

The move aims to ensure GeoPura can continue operating its existing fleet of A-Series systems, rather than having to retire and swap out the technology. But it also lines the firm up for business outside of the UK.

However, rather than relocating the parts and employees, the firm has set up GeoPura (Europe) in Denmark to serve as an electrolyser support hub.

H2 View has contacted GeoPura for confirmation on how many GHS electrolysers it currently operates and how many employees have joined the business.

While GeoPura’s primary business is in the deployment of its Siemens Energy-made hydrogen power units, it produces its own hydrogen to support those installations and sells it on the wider market.

It currently operates production sites in the north of England and has signed funding contracts for a 15MW project with the UK Government.

“We’re pleased to welcome a group of talented specialists who bring critical knowledge and expertise to our team,” said GeoPura CEO Andrew Cunningham.

GHS had struggled to stay afloat since last October, despite launching a major cost reduction programme.

After entering an in-court restructuring in May, the company filed for bankruptcy after competitor Thyssenkrupp Nucera acquired newer electrolyser technology, the X-Series.
