cellcentric: Plans for the large-scale series production of fuel cells unveiled

According to cellcentric, the state government and the chairman of the Green parliamentary group of Baden-Württemberg see cellcentric as one of the most important players in Baden-Württemberg in the transformation to climate-neutral heavy goods traffic.

If achieved, this could provide a vital reduction in carbon emissions and create a clean mobility solution with enormous potential.

Andreas Schwarz said, “We want to make Baden-Württemberg a technology-open, global pioneer for climate-neutral drives and digital networking.

“Fuel cell and hydrogen technology will play an important role in achieving climate protection goals in transport.”

Thekla Walker said, “Our discussions have confirmed that cellcentric and the state government of Baden-Württemberg are pulling in the same direction to make our business location fit for the future.”

Dr. Matthias Jurytko, CEO of cellcentric, said, “We see the fuel cell as a key technology, especially in heavy-duty traffic. The rule of thumb is that the heavier the load and the longer the distance, the better the fuel cell is.

“Both the low weight of the fuel cell and the short refuelling time to restore the range are comparable to the conventional diesel drive in heavy commercial vehicles.”

In April 2021, two of the biggest truck manufacturers in the world joined forces to create one of the most promising ventures in the hydrogen fuel cell industry – cellcentric. The joint venture company founded by Daimler Truck AG and Volvo Group is aiming to cut the cost of hydrogen fuel cells and make them commercially viable.

With a huge interest from the mobility sector around hydrogen fuel cells and its potential in long distance haulage, cellcentric featured at f-cell Stuttgart 2021 where it displayed one of its fuel cell systems and discussed its position in the market.

H2 View caught up with cellcentric’s CEO, Dr. Matthias Jurytko, at f-cell to find out more about the company, its thoughts on hydrogen fuel cells and the potential impact it could have on the trucking industry in the future.
