Dubbed EET Hydrogen Power, the power plant is expected to be Europe’s first hydrogen-ready facility, located at the company’s Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port, the UK.
EET Hydrogen Power will be developed over two phases to reach its capacity, with 6,000 tonnes per day of steam and the hydrogen replacing hydrocarbons delivering an expected reduction of 740,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum. The plant has been designed to replace Stanlow’s boiler units that currently generate 50MW of operations.
With operations planned for 2027, the CHP plant will purchase hydrogen from EET Hydrogen’s production plants and supply power and steam to EET Fuels’ Stanlow refinery. H2 View understands that EET Hydrogen Power will become an independent vertical under EET.
The project, part of the wider HyNet industrial cluster, will play a key role in EET’s overall $3bn of energy transition initiatives in the north west of England. Other plans include EET Hydrogen, developing 1.35GW+ of blue and green hydrogen capacity; EET Fuels, the Stanlow Refinery owner; and Stanlow Terminals, the UK’s “largest” independent bulk liquid storage terminal.

EET Hydrogen Power’s CEO, Rob Wallace, believes that the plant will create “significant benefit by contributing to regional emissions reductions targets.” He added, “We have bold ambitions for Stanlow to become a low-carbon transition hub at the centre of the HyNet Industrial Cluster.”
Tony Fountain, Managing Partner of EET, said, “Launching EET Hydrogen Power shows the progress that EET is making in delivering against its commitment to put the UK at the forefront of low-carbon energy.”
