The 12m buses are powered by 30 units of 82kW and 20 125kW fuel cell systems, which can generate energy efficiencies higher than 43% and 45%, respectively, both with operating times of more than 15,000 hours.

Through its main operating subsidiary, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, Yuchai Xingshunda is a 65% owned joint venture established in 2022 with Beijing Xing Shun Da Bus. It was designed for the development, manufacturing and sale of fuel cell powertrain systems.

“China’s hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry are poised to enter a period of accelerated growth,” explained Weng Ming Hoh, President of China Yuchai. “These 50 hydrogen buses commencing operation are the first product implementation of Yuchai Xingshunda’s core technologies in the marketplace.”

H2 View understands these powertrain products will help China meet its national “double carbon” goal. In addition, they match the national technical guidance requirements for hydrogen power and source all components domestically.

In 2021, a pilot transit hydrogen-powered bus fleet accumulated 75,000km of operation in Nanjing, across 45 days. The vehicles were powered by Loop Energy’s eFlow® fuel cell modules.
