Nippon Express Italia (NX Italy) today (August 10) announced it has launched a last-mile delivery service using hydrogen-powered boats for deliveries primarily luxury fashion shops.

Moving away from petrol and diesel engines, the boats are said to be equipped with removable hydrogen generators, hoping to contribute to the European Union’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels no later than 2030.

The move from NX Italy has come as the company strives to address climate change by cutting its own carbon dioxide emissions in its operations, as well as creating products and services to help its customers reduce their own.

In June (2022), Venice’s first hydrogen refuelling station was opened, offering over 100kg of hydrogen per day to its customers, coming off the back of a partnership between Air Liquide and Eni to establish multiple refuelling stations in Italy.
