The company revealed today (July 5) a Letter of Intent with Riversimple to purchase and take over operation of its hydrogen refuelling station in Abergavenny, Wales, UK, with a view for Element 2 to become Riversimple’s core refuelling infrastructure partner.

H2 View understands, Element 2 intends to supply hydrogen fuel, storage, and pump at mobile and fixed hydrogen refuelling stations for Riversimple’s customers, as the innovative car manufacturer moves into the next phase of development.

In addition to providing supply and refuelling solutions, Element 2 has said it will also provide technical and logistical support to Riversimple and its clients.

Tim Harper, CEO of Element 2, said,  “We’re looking forward to working in collaboration with Riversimple to significantly grow the hydrogen vehicle economy. It’s an important step in our roadmap to building the national hydrogen refuelling network needed for achieving the UK’s carbon zero targets.

“By investing in the Abergavenny hydrogen refuelling station and becoming a core infrastructure partner, we can provide reassurance to Riversimple’s customers and stakeholders that its FCEV fleet is supported by our leading expertise in hydrogen refuelling.”

Riversimple brings a different automotive business model to the table. The company will retain ownership of the car, with its customers paying a monthly fee that covers the car, maintenance, insurance and fuel.

Chris Foxall, Finance Director at Riversimple, commented, “The strategic partnership with Element 2 addresses the biggest barrier to a flourishing hydrogen transport sector, which is access to convenient and reliable refuelling infrastructure.  Our goal of having thousands of zero emission vehicles with quick refilling times and affordable long range is now one step closer to reality.”

The deal comes as part of Element 2’s wider plans. In 2021, it announced intentions of deploying more than 800 hydrogen refuelling pumps in the UK by 2027, in an attempt to break the ongoing ‘chicken and egg’ dilemma.

North American Hydrogen Summit

H2 View is taking its events platform to America’s original clean hydrogen hub of California. Together with the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP), we will stage our North American Hydrogen Summit in San Francisco on July 14-15.

As our summit theme Building Bridges: Hydrogen hubs and investment suggests, the event will explore the $8bn of funding announced to create at least four regional hydrogen hubs in the US. These hubs will turbo-charge the nation’s progress toward heavy trucking and industrial sectors that run without producing carbon pollution – and they may just provide the path forward to a hydrogen-fuelled future.

With California and Texas vying to be America’s hydrogen capital today, where are the hubs of tomorrow? Further still, what can other states, and countries, learn from California’s success story? And how can we build bridges to a successful flow of international investment?

If you are a member of the CaFCP, be sure to grab your ticket at a discounted rate with a code that can be provided to you by the events team.
