Following his position as Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor North America, Research and Development, he will take up the role at TMC’s newly established Hydrogen Factory organisation.

Hydrogen Factory is dedicated to accelerating customer-focused product development and production of fuel cells and hydrogen-related products.

The aim is to align business strategy, development, production, sales and marketing under one roof to enable faster decision-making, stronger alliances with markets in China and Europe, and the promotion of sustainable commercialisation.

Yasui joined Toyota in 1988 and was appointed as Executive General Manager of product planning of its mid-size vehicle company in 2016, before becoming Executive Vice President.

The company recently entered its liquid hydrogen-powered racing car into the Super Taikyu Fuji 24 Hours Race in Japan. The company believes that by offering a wide range of green vehicles, such as hybrid cars, it will be more effective in cutting its carbon footprint, rather than focusing just on electric vehicles.

Toyota hopes that by submitting its liquid hydrogen-powered vehicle into endurance races, it will improve the nascent technology’s functionality and address some of its challenges, such as how to keep liquid hydrogen at an extremely low temperature.
