The plant will be developed in Harjavalta and install an alkaline electrolyser which is scheduled for delivery in 2023 before the plant is put into commercial operation in 2024.

The hydrogen produced at this 20MW plant is expected to provide green electricity for industrial applications and will additionally support industries with oxygen and thermal energy produced as a by product.

P2X also plans to use the green hydrogen produced from the plant to create synthetic fuels paving a method to decarbonise the transportation sector further in the region.

Sunfire’s pressurised alkaline electrolyser runs at an operating pressure of 30 bar(g) and according to the company, is considered one of the most reliable electrolysis solutions.

Nils Aldag, CEO of Sunfire, said, “We are proud to contribute to P2X Solutions’ lighthouse project with our electrolysis technology.

“As a pioneer of green hydrogen in Finland, P2X is taking a decisive step in the country’s energy transition value working with pioneers like P2X Solutions, who are accelerating the expansion of innovative cleantech solutions in Europe.”

Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions, said, “The expansion of the hydrogen market plays a crucial role in achieving the Finnish climate goals and more energy self-sufficiency in the country.

“For our green hydrogen plant in Harjavalta, we need reliable electrolysis technology – that’s why we have decided to go with Sunfire. Our goal is to process some of the green hydrogen into renewable synthetic fuels.”
