The first collaboration between the companies is expected to be the development of a 15 tonne per day green hydrogen production plant in Louisiana, US.

In developing this plant, further green hydrogen will enter the market providing a basis for fuel cells to be completely clean with an opportunity to use clean hydrogen as opposed to both blue and grey.

This could not only support sustainable practices and raise the profile of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier, but additionally stimulate a domino effect in which further companies can transition.

In doing so, this could create a booming market for green hydrogen initially in North America and, further down the line, across the globe.

Under the JV, Plug Power will market the hydrogen and provide logistical support for delivery while Olin will provide reliable hydrogen production and operational support.

Scott Sutton, Chairman, President, and CEO of Olin Corporation, said, “Olin’s 130-year history of producing hydrogen as part of our chlor alkali production process combined with Plug Power’s leadership in the green hydrogen economy creates a powerful partnership to serve the growing demand for green hydrogen.

“This JV is a key step for Olin as we seek to recognise the full potential of Olin’s untapped hydrogen supply capabilities across North America. We are excited to partner with Plug Power, a true leader in sustainable hydrogen, to serve the fuel cell market.”

Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power, said, “We believe widespread availability of green hydrogen will create a flywheel effect by making green hydrogen ubiquitous and economical, helping accelerate the proliferation of numerous fuel cell applications.

“Olin has proven itself as a leader and bringing Olin’s reliable production capabilities together with the expertise of Plug Power is sure to make a lasting impact on the global hydrogen economy.”

North American Hydrogen Summit

H2 View is taking its events platform to America’s original clean hydrogen hub of California. Together with the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP), we will stage our North American Hydrogen Summit in San Francisco on July 14-15.

As our summit theme Building Bridges: Hydrogen hubs and investment suggests, the event will explore the $8bn of funding announced to create at least four regional hydrogen hubs in the US. These hubs will turbo-charge the nation’s progress toward heavy trucking and industrial sectors that run without producing carbon pollution – and they may just provide the path forward to a hydrogen-fuelled future.

With California and Texas vying to be America’s hydrogen capital today, where are the hubs of tomorrow? Further still, what can other states, and countries, learn from California’s success story? And how can we build bridges to a successful flow of international investment?

Our early bird offer tickets are $1,000, for a limited time only. If you are a member of the CaFCP, be sure to grab your ticket at a discounted rate with a code that can be provided to you by the events team.
