The country holds significant potential for developing hydrogen production projects and contribute massively to the European hydrogen supply chain.

If fully scaled and developed, the Norwegian hydrogen ecosystem could be one of the richest in the world and thus could become a hotspot for the clean energy carrier.

Jonas Gahr Støre said, “We need more power for the industry that is planned in Norway. Battery production, hydrogen production, investment in new aluminium advances. Everything we encounter when we meet Norwegian industry that talks about replacing gas with hydrogen and reducing climate emissions.

“This is directly the key to achieving those goals.”

Scaling the power production industry in Norway, specifically the green energy sector, could allow vast amounts of green hydrogen to be produced at cost-competitive rates.

This could accelerate adoption and in turn generate supply and demand for the clean energy carrier.

Jonas Gahr Støre continued, “It is the case that a lot of power from offshore wind means that we can also invest heavily in green hydrogen.

“That is, hydrogen produced from renewable energy. It opens up great opportunities for the use of hydrogen in Norway and also hydrogen exchange with Europe, which is of great interest.”
