Under a freshly inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the companies have set out to encourage the adoption of Nikola’s Class 8 zero-emissions vehicles with Klean’s partners and feedstock suppliers while developing green hydrogen supply and dispensing infrastructure in the US and Canada.

Nikola has said it will evaluate offtake opportunities from green hydrogen projects being developed by Klean and its partners involving hydroelectric, wind, and solar power in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

Earlier this month (March 10), Klean announced it was finalising partnerships for a consortium to facilitate green hydrogen projects in the Pacific Northwest to support refuelling.

The companies also plan to work together to convert Klean’s logistics partners’ truck fleets to Nikola Class 8 Tre fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

Both parties say they see opportunities to collaborate on projects where Klean and its partners operate recycling, resource recovery and waste to energy plants, where zero-emissions logistics will act as a key part of the supply chain.

“This exciting collaboration will create opportunities that will reinforce the importance of working together as we look to deploy and develop a renewable hydrogen value chain,” said Jesse Klinkhamer, CEO of Klean Industries.

“Developing clean energy projects with leading technology companies such as Nikola supports Klean’s strategic focus and enables our respective companies to create a symbiosis between waste, resources, and energy while simultaneously helping in the creation of a circular low carbon economy,” Klinkhamer added.

Carey Mendes, President Energy at Nikola, said, “the Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicle is poised to revolutionise the trucking industry and change the way we think about transportation. Klean has already brought together like-minded partners to decarbonise their truck fleets, which is a testament to their far-reaching commitment and deep knowledge of this sustainability space.”

Just today (March 28), Nikola announced Anastasiya Pasterick would take up the role of Chief Financial Officer as the company looks to build on the unveiling of its energy brand, HYLA.

A Successful Ecosystem for Green Hydrogen – London

It is becoming ever clearer that the entire green hydrogen ecosystem requires alignment. Hydrogen’s potential, performance, and safety are proven. Green hydrogen is widely accepted as a core pathway to Net Zero, yet the key levers in the transition are not yet in-sync.

At H2 View we recognise the increasingly challenging economic climate that various countries/economies are currently facing. We want to help as many companies as possible in the hydrogen space to achieve their needs as competitively and logically as possible. As a result, we felt it was a compelling decision to relocate our previously planned event in Iceland, to a venue in London.

Join H2 View in London, one of the foremost investment capitals of the world, for a 1.5-day event devoted to thought leadership, insights, and actionable takeaways in the green hydrogen ecosystem, combined with the connections and networking to deliver against those objectives.

This H2 View hydrogen summit is dedicated to dissecting the ecosystem requirements to truly realise a green hydrogen-fuelled future across industries, transport, and society. This event will tackle all sides of the energy ecosystem, from wind and solar power requirements to additionality, water sustainability, electrolyser technologies, and investment and policy climate.
