The deal, with commitments in excess of $12m through 2023, extends to 2024 making Tevva the first manufacturer to move into the full production phase of Loop Energy’s customer adoption cycle, where the company will integrate the fuel cell system into its manufacturing process, H2 View understands.

Coming off the back of Tevva’s orders for 2022, the companies say a surge in 2023 order volumes indicates a willingness within the commercial mobility sector to adapt hydrogen fuel cell technology as a zero-emission mobility solution.

Asher Bennett, founder and CEO of Tevva, said, ”Development of our hydrogen-electric truck platform has been extremely encouraging, and we are seeing growing demand for our product line.

“Loop Energy continues to show it can support our production targets and provide a fuel cell solution that will deliver lower costs and improved performance to our customers. As a result, we are moving closer to our corporate goal of reducing 10 million tonnes of global transportation carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.”

Tevva unveiled its 7.5 tonne hydrogen-electric last Thursday (June 30) which is expected to be on the road by the end of 2022, powered by Loop Energy’s fuel cells, offering a range of 310 miles (499km).

Ben Nyland, President and CEO of Loop Energy, said, “The market for zero-emissions commercial vehicles continues to develop quickly, and this supply agreement with Tevva puts Loop Energy on the path to not only technology leadership, but fuel cell market leadership.

“This is amongst the largest fuel cell product supply agreements in recent years. The contract with Tevva is indicative of the surge in interest we see in Europe for hydrogen-electric vehicles and the fuel cells that power them.

“Tevva is quickly establishing itself as a leader in the zero-emission commercial vehicle market in Europe, and we are looking forward to providing the fuel cell systems they need to succeed.”
