Unveiling Gassuin China on Tuesday (Feb 22), the zero-emissions transport specialist said it has opened a new headquarters in Shanghai for the base of its new subsidiary that will be responsible for developing license partnerships for deployment in the country.

With annual heavy-duty truck sales of approximately 1.5 million, China represents a major opportunity for Gaussin, especially when the country’s carbon intensity reduction targets are taken into consideration.

Christophe Gaussin, CEO of Gaussin, said, “We have bee establishing our footprint in Asia Pacific since 2018 stating with our licensed partner, ST Engineering, in Singapore, and then in 2021 with the addition of another licensed partner, Nexport, in Sydney, Australia.

“As China is the biggest truck market in the world, our ambition is to become a key player in the green mobility ecosystem there. We are working aggressively to identify license partners in the country to bring our established products and technologies to the fast-growing premium heavy-duty truck and bus segment.”

Supporting the new entity, William Lee, President of Gaussin Asia-Pacific, will now be General Manager of Gaussin China. Lee, along with Christophe Gaussin, will serve as the legal representatives of the new business.

On the launch, Lee commented, “China has committed to achieving carbon neutrality before 2060 during COP26 in Glasgow. We believe with our full range of off-road and on-road zero-emission, smart and connected vehicles for freight transportation and people mobility, we will be able to contribute towards this climate goal in China.

“Our strategy is to design the right specification trucks for China, source key components in Chain and manufacture in China. With the establishment of Gaussin China in Shanghai and together with our partners, we are confident that we will become one of the key players in transforming land transportation towards carbon-free mobility.”

Gaussin: Supporting clean transportation with hydrogen solutions

“The transportation sector is a top contributor to environmental pollution, so it’s our obligation to reduce this carbon footprint as quickly as possible, and as the cleanest energy source, hydrogen is the best way to make a significant positive impact.”

Those were the words of Christophe Gaussin, CEO and Chairman of Gaussin, a French engineering company that specialises in smart, zero-emission transport solutions. A dominant innovator in the hydrogen transportation space, Gaussin has this year alone launched multiple hydrogen mobility solutions, but its journey in the space is just getting started.

Speaking to H2 View in a exclusive interview, Gaussin said, “I joined the company and assumed the role of CEO in 1995 and the first major innovation of my tenure was to launch a range of tailor-made electric, self-propelled vehicles for specific industries, such as oil and gas, aerospace and others.

“It was also then that we started developing the next generation of battery-electric vehicles as well as new hydrogen fuel cell technology in order to make a full transition to get away from fossil fuels. And we did it: as of 2013, everything we produce or manufacture runs on clean energy only, either electricity, hydrogen or both.”
