Announced today (June 6), the German operator has placed an order with Solaris Bus & Coach for 20 Urbino hydrogen buses, which will bring its total Solaris made fleet up to 35.

H2 View understands the contract allows for an additional order of another 20 Urbino 12 buses.

The orders solidifies both RVK’s and Cologne’s commitments to reducing carbon-emissions as Germany and Europe endeavour to meet climate targets.

RVK’s first order of Solaris buses arrived in Cologne in March last year (2021), and on May 27 (2022), announced it had ordered 60 hydrogen buses from UK-based manufacturer, Wrightbus.

Petros Spinaris, Member of the Management Board for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales at Solaris, said, “This new order for our hydrogen buses, one on such a significant scale, is a token of the high regard we are held in.

“This is also a proof of the dynamic transition to zero-emission sustainable public transport taking place in European towns and cities. Cologne is definitely a leader in this transformation”
