Last Friday (May 6), Norwegian Hydrogen AS, FirstElement Fuel Inc. and Mitsui & Co, announced the companies would be working together to accelerate the expansion of the hydrogen network across the entire Nordic region.

Norwegian Hydrogen will be undertaking the building and operating of the production facilities, as well as constructing a network of refuelling stations for heavy duty vehicles and maritime customers.

H2 View understands the companies will be working to ensure access to zero-emission hydrogen for a range of sectors such as freight trains, constriction, mining, and bio e-fuel production.

Joel Ewanick, Founder and CEO at FirstElement Fuel, “Supporting Norwegian Hydrogen with their growth plans is part of what we always hoped to do – use our learnings and our True Zero Platform to create a positive customer experience and make hydrogen successful everywhere in the world.

“This is fantastic for our planet, to move the whole Nordic region to hydrogen and help fight back against climate change.”

California-based First Element Fuel owns and operates the 36-station True Zero Hydrogen Network, ‘the largest combined hydrogen station network in the world’, on the US West Coast, which is set to expand to 55 stations by the end of 2023.

Hiroshi Kakiuchi, Managing Officer of the Performance Materials Business Unit at Mitsui, stated, “We are honoured to leverage our existing relationship with Norwegian Hydrogen, the affiliate of Hexagon Purus to expedite the geographic expansion of FirstElement Fuel into European countries.”
