Dubbed iH2 Brasil Programme, it consists of three calls between 2022 and 2023 for ideas from local businesses and enthusiast involved in developing the hydrogen supply chain in Brazil.

The proposals must cover several key areas within the green hydrogen value chain including production, logistics, and application of green hydrogen.

Dr. Bernd dos Santos Mayer, Coordinator of the Initiative in Brazil by GIZ, said, “Brazil has the potential to be one of the most promising producers of Green Hydrogen in key areas such as fertilisers – becoming independent from imports – mobility and naval.

“However, the market, value chain and local RD&I ecosystem still need to be developed in Brazil.”

Bruno Vath Zarpellon, Director of Innovation and Sustainability at the Brazil-Germany Chamber of São Paulo (AHK SP), said, “Looking specifically at the RD&I ecosystem focused on Green Hydrogen, the situation is incipient and quite concentrated in the field of production, with logistics and application being quite out of date.

“Other than that, there are still few initiatives aimed at supporting Cleantechs, companies based on clean technologies, which require great investment and time for their development.”
