Polish bus & coach manufacturer, Solaris revealed today (July 29) the contract for the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses was signed by Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB) also allowing for an eventual order of up to 40 buses.

Powered by a 70kW fuel cell pack, the Urbino 12 hydrogen bus was unveiled in 2019, and has subsequently seen testing in Austria, Italy and Germany.

After an initial order of from the Cologne, Germany-based public transport operator, Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK), Solaris in June (2022), received a further order for 20 of its hydrogen-powered buses, which would see the Cologne fleet brought up to 35.

Commenting on the latest order, Javier Calleja, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach, said, “Our partnership with Bratislava started back in 2006. Over the years, we have delivered 50 vehicles with diesel and CNG drives to that city.

“Currently, we are accompanying DPB in the deployment of hydrogen technology, which is one of the most crucial when it comes to planning modern and clean urban public transport. Thus, Bratislava is setting a great example for other European towns and cities.”
