Believed by the duo to be a particularly apt solution for long-haul applications, liquid hydrogen can offer twice the autonomy of similar vehicles running on gaseous hydrogen, whilst still boasting short refuelling times.

In order to ensure a smooth development process for the on-board liquid hydrogen storage systems, the partnership will utilise Air Liquide’s expertise across the entire liquid hydrogen value chain and Faurecia’s architecture and system integration skills.

On the partnership, Benoît Potier, Chairman and CEO of Air Liquide, said, “Momentum is building around hydrogen, generating worldwide interest. In this context, players from many different sectors are joining forces to unlock the potential of hydrogen.

“Our partnership with a world leader such as Faurecia aims to accelerate the development of hydrogen mobility focusing on the heavy-duty market, for which hydrogen is particularly suited. Thanks to its innovation capacity and expertise, Air Liquide is contributing to the development of hydrogen ecosystems on the entire hydrogen value chain.

“In line with our sustainability objectives, our ambition is to contribute actively to the emergence of a low carbon society.”

Patrick Koller, CEO of Faurecia, added, “This partnership is the first milestone of a great journey with Air Liquide, a best-in-class partner in the field of hydrogen. Teaming up these two complementary hydrogen specialists will enable the development of cutting-edge liquid hydrogen storage technologies for heavy mobility with a rapid time-to-market.”

For both partners, the joint development is one of many they hold within the mobility sector. Between them both, they have held, or continue to hold, partnership with the likes of Daimler Trucks, the Port of Rotterdam, Toyota, Shell, Hyundai, Michelin and more to boost zero-emissions mobility.

US DOE, General Motors, Microsoft and Plug Power

What does the US Department of Energy (DOE), General Motors, Microsoft and Plug Power have in common? They’re all speaking at H2 View’s North American Virtual Hydrogen Event in October. Will you be joining us on October 19?

North America is in a prime position to lead efforts in decarbonisation, but it still has great distances to travel. The region has been giving chase in a race to green hydrogen dominated by Europe and Asia-Pacific. If policymakers and industry can work together and take the right steps to realise a hydrogen vision, the region is perfectly placed to expand its global energy leadership at scale and speed.

What lessons can be learned from Europe’s policymakers? What are the challenges to be overcome? What are the strengths and opportunities? How can North America go from giving chase to taking a lead in hydrogen? These are all questions our virtual event will address across H2 View’s four pillars of Mobility, Power, Policy and Technology.
