Unveiled on Saturday (Feb 19) by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) on the behalf of the Australian Government, the Future Fuels Programme will see funding dedicated to the roll-out of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and the supporting infrastructure.

As a whole, the effort will operate as a competitive, open and ongoing programme that will both support vehicle operators and the various decarbonisation goals set out by the Australian Government.

Darren Miller, CEO of ARENA, said, “Assisting fleet users to move to zero emissions vehicles means getting more zero emissions cars and trucks on the road sooner, driving the road transport sector toward a net zero future.”

Since 2016, ARENA has committed over $78m to zero emission vehicles technologies, such as hydrogen infrastructure, and continues to support Australia’s evolving hydrogen economy.

The Future Fuels Programme marks the next stage of the Future Fuels and Vehicles Strategy launched by the Australian Government in November (2021).
